I have to say, I was not expecting this from AKMU. With Chan-hyuk back from his mandatory tour in the military, he and younger sister Su-hyun have decided to delve in to the electro-pop of the 1980s. And I dig it. I dig it heavy.
Opening tracks "Hey kid, Close your yees" and "NAKKA" (with the legendary IU) catch listeners off guard with their brazenness. It's pretty much an accepted fact that the sibling duo have a talent that's woefully underutilized at their current record company. That being said, they work very well with whatever freedom they do have.
YG Entertainment is more prone to experimentation than their big brother in SM Entertainment, who while they do set most of the trends in the country (we could get into why that is and how, but that's an article for another day) when they find something that works, they stick with it with little variance, especially with their big singers. YG has at their disposal both a huge signer in Su-hyun and incredible musical mind in Chan-hyuk, and the work they do together is really just incredible when they really get down and serious.
They are playful throughout ("Tictoc Tictoc Tictoc"), but that doesn't diminish their unquestionable talent. If this is indeed AKMU's NEXT EPISDOE, anticipation is high for what the rest of this season of their career has to offer.
